One such organization, Microsoft Student Partners, is new to the game, but is already tackling the issue of technology literally on campus. Microsoft’s Student Partner initiative is allowing Georgetown to tap into Microsoft Imagine resources as well as awesome Microsoft Sponsored tech workshops. Having only been active since the beginning of this spring semester, this organization is actively trying to teach students on campus the basics of web development in order to begin creating their online presence, as well as enhancing their resume.
This last February, Microsoft hosted their second tech workshop of the semester with a twist. The workshop was centered around a unique Mexican-American border-town holiday: Charro Days. On top of building their online presence, participants dabbled in Chicanx culture through the workshop-provided tacos, Mexican candy, and Latinx music. The event was created to help spread awareness of such a critical holiday that works to celebrate the unique culture that comes from living in a land that falls in the middle of American and Mexican culture. The participants learned how to tweak an already created website in order to help begin exposing themselves to the languages behind web pages. Participants took that same website and uploaded it online using Georgetown’s free resources, making their creations accessible to anyone with an internet connection.
